Meet Alex Hulst, PhD, LMFT
Meet Alex Hulst, PhD, LMFT
Dr. Hulst serves as Family Health West’s Director of Behavioral Health. She is passionate about building effective teams and in training students and early career therapists. In 2018, she published an academic book aimed at training therapists in contextual family therapy to help individuals and families navigate health issues.
Dr. Hulst specializes in couples and family therapy, especially with issues of lifecycle transitions (parenthood, retirement, etc.) and acute and chronic illness. She has worked with patients of all ages experiencing cancer, neuromuscular disorders, diabetes, stroke, and more. She has been trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) and in working specifically with individuals connected to the agricultural community. She strives to help her clients find strength, humor, connection, and meaning in the midst of any hardship. She has a flexible, warm style that can be more pragmatic and goal-oriented or emotion-focused, depending upon what you need.
Outside of work, Dr. Hulst loves trying new recipes, exploring trails across the Grand Valley, and reading.
